21st century humans
21st Century Humans – Earth: ![]()
though not without distracting contradictions, the planet earth’s ongoing production ’21st century humans’ presents a stunning tour de force of masochistic primitivism exploring themes of absurdity, violence, and collective irresponsibility.
resting on a central conceit of pervasive metaphysical ignorance, an elaborate drama unfolds in which players unwittingly frustrate themselves and others by eschewing principles of creative consciousness to live within a cleverly constructed though particularly tortured framework of physical determinism. unexpected consequences ensue, culminating in the tying and untying of a fantastic knot of hilariously depraved proportions. dysfunctional social norms, frivolously destructive technologies, and perverse refusals of divine unity abound, gorgeously suffused with raw emotional poignance and the ornate beauty of the earth itself. lord xylox reprises the popular role of an opportunistic inter-dimensional overlord, in this case expressed primarily through human intermediaries in a tastefully understated way which doesn’t detract from the reality’s most engaging aspect, namely the human cast’s convincing portrayal of unconsciously self-imposed powerlessness and the desperate bewilderments it engenders.
rhythm is carried throughout by the perennial appearance of fully conscious characters intent on alleviating humanity’s suffering through richly metaphorical monologues, which are invariably twisted through mistranslation into central justifications for further multiplied violence and division. despite stretching credulity nearly to a breaking point these sequences are nonetheless rendered entirely plausible by the undeniably horrific grandeur of the human’s unusual predicament.
those familiar with earth’s previous offerings ‘annunaki moonrise’ and ‘pharoanic mind scythe’ will undoubtedly appreciate the continuities and recurring themes extended through the present production, however ’21st century humans’ explores new territory and remains self-referential enough to satisfy on it’s own. while the overall tone may be too dark for some, ’21st century humans’ doubtlessly reinforces earth’s reputation for consistently edgy, engaging performances. unequivocally recommended.
